“One of the wonderful things about women and hair is that we can present ourselves with many different styles and be our own person,” according to Pettiford.

The event included hair care classes, workshops and giveaways. There was also a panel that featuring Tanya Wright from the Netflix show, “Orange is the New Black,” who is also featured in this week’s Indie Soul Spotlight.

“We started planning this event in January. I have a wonderful team that helps me. I love being a voice for women [and] I want people to become educated, network and feel good for themselves, ” said Pettiford.

When asked what else is on the horizon, Pettiford replied, “In 2015, I will host another event where it will be like a mixer or meet and greet. I will have hair care lines and people can come mingle, perhaps try samples and really see what beautiful is all about.”
