— MECU, Baltimore’s Credit Union, proudly announces that John Hamilton, President and CEO, has been named a CEO Stoppping Diabetes by the Maryland Chapter of the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

He will also be joining the Community Leadership Board at the ADA Maryland Chapter for 2018.

The CEOs Stopping Diabetes program was founded in 2013 as a partnership between the ADA’s Maryland Chapter and the Greater Baltimore Committee. Participating business executives promote employee wellness by initiating healthy activities and programs in the workplace.

Throughout the summer, MECU hosted walking groups and healthy eating events, as well as salsa lessons and free yoga classes for employees. More than 60 employees have participated, logging hundreds of hours of activities, including more than 4,500 miles walked.

“Being part of CEOs Stopping Diabetes was an easy decision for me both from as a business leader and as an individual,” Hamilton said. “Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is something that shouldn’t be put on pause while you’re at work. I’ve been thrilled to see how engaged our staff is in these wellness programs and I look forward to continuing to encourage our employees to look after their health.”

“John has fully embraced the spirit of the CEOs Stopping Diabetes program by leading from the front. Not only is he rewarding his employees for focusing on their well-being and getting active, but he is personally engaged by participating in Step Out and other activities he planned for his staff as a CEO Stopping Diabetes” said David McShea, executive director of the American Diabetes Association of Maryland.
