Baltimore City Community College Welcomes

— On Monday, officials at Baltimore City Community College in partnership with Baltimore Innovation Village opened its doors to the Conscious Venture Lab’s Business Accelerator which introduced the seven start-up companies that will be a part of the Fall 2017 cohort at their new location at the College’s South Pavilion ,2600 Liberty Heights Avenue.

Seven companies participating in the three-month program were selected to increase economic opportunity and create more livable and equitable urban environments. Baltimore City Community College was selected as the educational partner for the venture because of its dedication to creating opportunities for communities in the city.

The partnership with Baltimore Innovation Village will offer the opportunity for engagement with students, faculty and the West Baltimore Community. The seven companies included in the Fall 2017 cohort are The Baltimore Food Hub, The Cube, Danae Prosthetics, GridLion, Parkofon, Treason Toting Co., UJoin,

“The partnership is an ideal match for our community workforce development mission

and will tap the energy and creative aspirations of all of our students, faculty and

residents of West Baltimore,” said BCCC President/CEO Dr. Gordon F. May.

The day began as Innovation Villages convened a Summit on Smart Cities, Themed “All Access” in a conference center at Baltimore City Community College. The summit brought out over 100 entrepreneurs, local politicians and community members to discuss how traditional barriers to capital and other resources required to start and grow businesses in urban areas.

Baltimore City Community College and Conscious Venture Labs along with Innovation Villages and its partners at the Kaufman Foundation, MoCaFi, Startup Maryland, Fearless are committed to the transformation of Baltimore City and other urban centers by providing access and opportunity to the possibility and potential of innovation and the knowledge economy.
