BALTIMORE — The Pearl and Ivy Educational Foundation, Inc. (PIEF), in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Xi Omega Chapter, held “It’s A Capital Affair” – 8th Annual Pink Hat Tea Scholarship Fundraiser Providing Support to Scholars in Our Nation’s Capital.
Proceeds from The Pink Hat Tea are used to specifically support the PIEF Salute to Excellence scholarship program for college-bound DC high school graduating seniors. In 2016, PIEF awarded $2,300 each to fourteen college-bound high school seniors and $1,500 each to eleven PIEF returning scholars. The 2017 event goal is to raise $35,000.
The Pink Hat Tea program featured an extraordinary hat/bow tie fashion show and exemplary silent auction. Former scholarship recipients shared how the PIEF scholarships benefited their lives.

Xi Omega Chapter is the oldest and largest graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Washington, DC. Established in 1923, the chapter has a membership of more than 300 professional women, who serve the District and surrounding communities. Xi Omega’s signature service programs focus on educational enrichment, health promotion, family strengthening, environmental ownership, and global impact.
