MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Five runs allowed in the first inning was the difference Alabama State losing to South Alabama, 13-4 on Tuesday.
The Hornets dug themselves too big a hole. Alabama State trailed South Alabama 5-1 after the first inning. The Hornets would get two runs in the sixth, but the score was 10-3 in favor of South Alabama at that point in the contest.
Alabama State would not be able to mount a comeback in the later innings, leading to the defeat.
Ray Hernandez went 2 for 4 from the plate, with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored in the loss.

JACKSON, Miss. – Tiger bats caught fire as they faced LeMoyne-Owen College in doubleheader action Tuesday evening. The Jackson State baseball teams defeated the Magicians 14-1 in game one and 17-2 in game two.
In game one, junior right-hand pitcher Mark Watson collected his second win on the mound to improve his overall record to 2-1. Watson, Orlando, Fla. native, pitched 6.0 innings for four hits against, one unearned run, two walks and eight strikeouts.
Junior pitcher Garth Cahill took over the mound in the seventh to close the game for the Tigers. He pitched 1.0 innings for two hits.
At the plate, Jonah Hargroves had the most successful outing. Hargroves, junior utility player, went 3-for-4 at the plate for two runs and two runners batted in. Lamar Briggs and Wesley Reyes tied for a game high of three RBIs and David Burke led in scoring with three runs.
In game two, Seberon Mackey, senior right-hand pitcher, also collected his second win on the mound. The Freeport, Bahamas native pitched 4.0 innings for one hit, no runs, two walks and three strikeouts. Two relieve pitchers enter the game to complete the game. Malik Washington pitched 2.0 innings for three hits, two earned runs, three walks, and two strikeouts. Jashanno Sweeting closed the game with 1.0 innings pitched for no hits, no runs, one walk, and one strikeout.

The Prairie View A&M University baseball team split a home doubleheader against Jarvis Christian, winning game one 8-7 before falling in game two 5-2 at Tankersley Field.
The Panthers open a three-game home SWAC series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday at 3 p.m.
Game 1-Panthers 8, Jarvis Christian 7: Prairie View A&M jumped out to a big lead before winning in extra innings.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, Steven Williams, who went 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI, homered to right field to lead off the inning. Tyrone Thomas followed with a single to left center, and advanced to second on a throwing error as Carson Lee reached first. Both runners advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch before Kevin Macais’ two-run single up the middle. Tyler Gordon Was then hit by a pitch, and both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Andrew Garcia. Corbin Jamison’s infield single scored Macias. Following a walk to Xavier Jefferson, Gordon scored on a passed ball for a 5-1 PVAMU lead.
After the Panthers scored two in the third to take a 7-1 lead, Jarvis Christian rallied back with runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to tie the score and force extra innings.
In the eighth, Jefferson singled through the right side, and advanced to second on a passed ball. Cody Den Beste then walked before Williams’ walkoff single to right field, scoring Jefferson with the winning run.
Macais went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, and Jamison drove in two runs. Phillip Gay earned the win in relief for the Panthers.
Game 2 – Jarvis Christian 5, Panthers 2: Trailing 2-0 in the first, PVAMU tied the score in the home half of the inning. Jamison reached on a throwing error before Macias singled to left field. Den Beste’s single to right center scored Jamison. Nathan Carter’s sacrifice fly scored Macias to tie the score. However, the Panthers would not score again.Den Beste went 2-for-2 in the nightcap.

Louisiana Monroe 7, Grambling State 1

MONROE, La. – Four runs allowed in the first three innings was enough for Grambling State to fall 7-1 to Louisiana Monroe on Tuesday.
The Tigers got off to a slow start in this one, trailing 4-0 after the first four innings of play.
GSU’s only run of the contest came via an RBI single from Ian Bailey in the fifth inning.
Bailey would go 2 for 4 with that lone RBI in the game.
