BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi Valley State’s Senior Forward Ashley Beals has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her performance over the sixth week of the regular season. The second consecutive week a Mississippi Valley State player has been names the Player of the Week.

Beals scored a game high 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double, and also had five steals in Mississippi Valley State’s lone game of the week, a 76-64 loss to #18 Colorado on Dec. 17.

Beals ranks 12th in the SWAC in scoring averaging 11.9 points per game. Beals also ranks tied for fourth in the conference in rebounds, averaging 7.1 boards per contest.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M’s Quinterian McConico has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in week six of the regular season.

In his only game of the week, McConico scored a career-high 30 points at Georgia State on 11-of-15 shooting from the field and 8-for-8 from the free-throw line and pulled down 10 rebounds on Dec. 14. He led both teams in those categories. Coming into the contest, McConico was averaging 9.8 points per game.

Currently, the senior leads the Bulldogs in points (12.0) and rebounds (8.0) per game, and is shooting 50 percent from the field.
