MECU Foundation donates to Baltimore City Schools, CollegeBound, Credit Union for Kids

— Baltimore— The MECU Foundation presented $35,000 to CollegeBound Foundation, nine Baltimore partner schools, and Credit Union for Kids, at a reception on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. The money, raised at the 12th Annual MECU Charity Cup Golf Tournament in September, will be used to purchase school supplies and meet other needs for the young students.

“For 80 years, MECU has been committed to giving back to the local communities that we serve,” said Herman Williams, Jr., Chairman of MECU’s board of directors.

John Hamilton, Chief Executive Officer and President of MECU added, “The funds raised at our charity golf tournament support the needs of our Baltimore schools and assist CollegeBound Foundation in its mission to help students realize their dreams of a college education.”

MECU’s nine partner schools include Arlington Elementary, Cross Country Elementary /Middle School, Ft. Worthington Elementary/Middle School, Graceland Park Elementary/Middle School, Hamilton Elementary/Middle School, Pleasant Plains Elementary School, New Song Elementary/Middle School, Samuel L. Coleridge Elementary School, and Yorkwood Elementary School.

“In partnership with the MECU Foundation, MECU has taken a vested interest in our Baltimore schools,” said Deborah Sharpe, board member, MECU Foundation. “We are honored to provide financial support and applaud the many MECU employees who generously volunteer their time to help our students succeed.”

In its twelfth year, the MECU Charity Cup Golf Tournament was initiated by the Board of Directors to expand the credit union’s community outreach in Baltimore. The MECU Foundation, established in 2007, is the recipient of the proceeds from the golf tournament.
