With the elections so critical to our community, many organizations stepped up their efforts to register citizens to vote by the deadline. Most recently, the Rho Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. partnered with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Delta Lambda and Beta Alpha Lambda Chapters to conduct voter registration and an expungement process at the Upton-Avenue market. The next step is to encourage voters to go to the polls.

Another organization, Women Behind the Community, Inc. (WOBECO) partnered with Black Girls Vote to hold voter registration at several sites including branches of the Enoch Pratt Library and The Ivy Family Center.

These organizations conducted voter education programs to encourage people to get to the polls during early voting for the primary election April 14 – 21, 2016. Maryland’s primary election will be held, Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

After the primaries, voter registration efforts will resume until October 18, 2016 in preparation for the general election to choose the president. Early voting in the general election runs from October 27 to November 6, 2016. The general election is Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
