Registration is now open for Encore Chorale’s Summer Choral Institutes offering “singing summer camp” for older adults. The Institutes are sponsored by Encore Creativity for Older Adults, the nation’s largest choral singing program for adults 55 plus. The institutes, now in their eighth year, will attract adult students from all over the country, at all levels of vocal experience, for an exciting week of intensive choral music study.

The Encore Choral Institute at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland will run from June 14-18 and is led by Encore founder and conductor Jeanne Kelly, and Stephen Harouff, music director of Towson Presbyterian Church and the Towson Encore Chorale. Singers have a full day starting with stretch/Yoga class and followed by a full choral rehearsal. After lunch singers will choose from a vocal technique class, a choral sectional, or free time. An afternoon choral rehearsal will follow. Repertoire will include spirituals, oratorio selections, songs from the American Song Book and Broadway. Singers may sit for rehearsals and performance. The program will culminate in a free grand finale performance on Thursday, June 18 for friends, family and the public in the Daniel Z. Gibson Center for Performing Arts on the Washington College campus.

Encore Chorale returns to the famed Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua NY from August 30-September 4, 2015. The Choral Institute will be conducted by Jeanne Kelly, founder and Executive Director of Encore Chorale, and Jeffrey Dokken, an accomplished composer and the conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia and its Chorale, as well as the Alexandria and Leisure World Encore Chorales. The repertoire will include spirituals, oratorio selections, songs from the American Songbook and Broadway favorites. Morning and afternoon rehearsals as well as sectionals and vocal technique classes will offer singers opportunities to improve their skills, and a grand finale performance on Friday, September 4, will be open to the Chautauqua community.

Participant program fees include all classes, materials, accommodations on site, and meals. Commuter students are welcome at both locations and fees adjusted accordingly. Non-participating spouses or guests are also welcome and their fees include shared accommodations with the singer, and meals with the program participants. Institute participants need not be current Encore singers. The registration deadline for the Washington College program is May 15, and for the Chautauqua program on August 1, 2015.
