— Employees from across Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) celebrated National Volunteer Week (April 12-18) by participating in nearly 30 employee-led service projects in central Maryland and the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. metro area throughout the month of April. The month of service events kicked off today at Real Food Farm in Baltimore City. BGE employee volunteers completed landscaping and planting projects, refreshed signage and worked in the hoop houses, weeding and gardening, to prepare them for the spring. Real Food Farm is Civic Works’ innovative urban agricultural enterprise engaged in growing fresh produce on eight acres in and around Clifton Park in northeast Baltimore.

National Volunteer Week is an annual, nationwide celebration of people working to improve their communities through volunteer service. Each year, BGE employees organize community service projects for the company’s 3,200 employees, family members and friends to participate in throughout April. This year, more than 550 BGE employees will donate more than 1,800 hours focused on projects that include cleaning up parks and other public spaces, planting trees, maintaining the Chesapeake Bay Oyster Gardens, serving meals to people struggling with poverty and helping rebuild homes, among others.
