Our entrepreneur of the week, Shawn Terry, met the difficulties of a challenging economy head on after losing his government job in the spring of 2014.
In order to support his family, he decided to strike out on his own. “I made the decision to go into business for myself doing something I love; cooking” states Shawn.
Terry is known for his barbecue skills so he started his business Smokin’ Shawn’s BBQ LLC to showcase his cooking abilities.
He credits his faith with giving him early success including catering events and having his items on the menu at HighGrain Bread Company.
The future looks bright for Shawn Terry. His goals include having BBQ rubs, sauces, and menu items in the D.C. metro area as well as worldwide. “This is about leaving a legacy for family. My wife is involved, my daughters, and hopefully soon, my mom, sisters and brothers.”
