On Tuesday, February 25, 2014, Smith came to Dickey Hill Elementary/Middle School to dedicate the “Torrey’s Reading Oasis” at a ribbon-cutting ceremony where he addressed the student body.

Following the ceremony, Smith read-aloud in the Reading Oasis with a smaller group of students, the winners of a reading contest. The room is painted in the Ravens’ colors with several images of Smith on the wall. The big green carpet that covers the floor is reminiscent of a football field with Smith’s No.82 on it.

“Torrey’s Reading Oasis” was created as part of the charitable programming of the Torrey Smith Foundation and its focus on improving literacy in area schools. The Reading Oasis will serve the students at the school, providing access to age-appropriate books and a comfortable place to read.
