New Orleans author Happy Johnson publishes new children’s book

Bestselling author Happy Johnson released his latest children’s book, “Backyard Bayou,” on Friday, November 29, 2013.

Backyard Bayou, the second installment in the Big Wanda Series, is a funny and captivating children’s picture book about a youngster and his favorite uncle who go on a wild fishing trip at Bayou Bienvenue aka Backyard Bayou.

This is Johnson’s fourth children’s book. His other titles that include:

“The Adventures of Happy and Big Wanda,” “Fearless Delta Fox,” and “What About Pickles?”

Instead of catching Red Fish and Bass, the dynamic duo snags a gigantic gator and in the process— they discover not only the importance of friendship and teamwork, but also the importance of Louisiana wildlife and wetlands restoration.

Happy Johnson found his passion for community service when he drove an Emergency Response Vehicle in New Orleans post-Katrina. He is the CEO of Team Happy Foundation, which he co-founded following his service as a first responder in December 2005. Johnson has held a strong interest in helping displaced children, reflecting his own adolescent journey in foster care.

Co-host of GoNOLA TV, Johnson’s favorite activity is coaching middle school sports. TIME Magazine has profiled his leadership in the nationwide History textbook: Civics Today. A former White House Intern, Johnson received his B.A. from Georgetown University and Management Certification from Columbia University.
