— German Christmas sails into Baltimore! For the first time ever, the Christmas Village will transform Baltimore’s Inner Harbor West Shore Park, located at 501 Light Street, into an authentic German Christmas Market. Running from November 28 to December 24, 2013, the Christmas Village will bring a true spirit of Christmas to Baltimore.

The indoor and outdoor Holiday market will be modeled after the traditional Christmas markets in Germany. It will feature a unique shopping experience, great entertainment and traditional food and beverages.

The Christmas Village will feature an outdoor area with 20 wooden booths, creating the authentic feeling traditionally found at a Christmas Market. The highlight of the event will be the 180’x60′ heated festival tent, where even more international vendors will offer a great shopping experience with their seasonal holiday gifts, ornaments, jewelry and high quality arts and crafts from all over the world.

The atmosphere will be unique, with the setting of an ancient German town inside the tent and a Christmas-filled atmosphere overlooking Baltimore’s Harbor. Dazzling Christmas lights and decorations along with the delicious smells of treats, such as juicy bratwurst, gingerbread, pretzels, crepes and warm mulled (spiced) wine coming from the Bavarian beer garden will put you and your family in the perfect Christmas mood.

Fun attractions for the whole family will be found inside and outside the cozy heated tent. At the center stage, live entertainment will take place where local choirs, orchestras, bands, and others will put on frequent performances. Families will be able to “make a wish” to support a local charity by labeling a wooden, heart-shaped ornament and hanging it on the Wish Tree. A unique Face-in-a-hole Wall will provide a way for patrons to forever capture this heart-warming, festive occasion.

Come for a special sneak peek of the Christmas Village on Thursday, November 28th. On December 1st, there will be a special Grand Opening Ceremony. Christmas Village will participate in Baltimore’s Dollar Weekend, so holiday passes and a whole lotta’ Christmas will be offered for only $1! Experience the culture of Germany at the German-American weekend, where German dancing groups will put on a grand performance.

The Christmas Village will be open from Thanksgiving, November 28th, through Christmas Eve, December 24th, and will run from 11 AM – 7 PM (Sunday through Thursday) and 11 AM – 8 PM (Friday and Saturday). The Christmas Village will be open on Christmas Eve from 11 AM – 5 PM.

The Christmas Village of Baltimore’s grand opening event will take place on Sunday, December 1st and be marked by the arrival of the official Christkind from Nuremberg, Germany – the traditional Christmas Angel and bringer of gifts in Germany. Christmas Village in Baltimore officially partners with the city of Nuremberg to bring the famous figurehead of the Nuremberg Christkindlmarket.

Christkind (pronounced Kristkint) is a fairy-like being, dressed in a gold and white robe with a crown atop her golden locks. She will officially open the Christmas Village in Baltimore with her traditional prologue starting at 2 p.m. on December 1st.

In Germany, Christkind is famous for bringing Christmas gifts to the children, and she will certainly not be coming to Baltimore empty-handed. When the grand opening ceremony is over, Christkind will walk around the Christmas Village greeting children and adults.
