— When this column first started, the sole purpose was to be part of a movement to expose readers and fans to something new and fresh in entertainment, books, films, television, business and music. The column has been going strong for almost three years showcasing local talent in the DC, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) area.

This year, Indie Soul is proud to tell you about the “Summer Indie Music Festival,” which takes place on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Security Mall located at 6901 Security Blvd. in Baltimore from noon to 9 p.m. This venue offers another platform to new and upcoming talent. It is an excellent opportunity for the public to come out to support the independent artist.

Vivian Hill-Lawson, one of the organizers of the music festival said, “There is so much talent out there, we need to come together as one and move together and not worry about being the first to make it— but to make it together.” Hill-Lawson has set the example by the way she has not only handled her artists, KedaSings and 495 Group, who will be performing at the festival but the care and attention that she has shown to all the artists. The Eddie Kayne Show is the other half of the organizers who helps to put the entire event together.

Media outlets expected to be represented at the event include: FRESH TV, D-city radio, TheLaZHour, 420Friendly Radio, My Soul Radio, SkysDa LimitRadio, Ryze Radio, DMV Access, as well as The Baltimore Times. Corey Bivens of MY SOUL RADIO said, “Although we are based in Atlanta, we have our business partner in Baltimore, who will be present, getting information from the artists, telling them about our radio station and letting them know we will play their music.”

It’s perhaps good for us to remember that mainstream artists, were at one time independent artists. The movement needs your support! You never know, you might just see the next big thing!
