Hello my friends, so what do you think? Do you think we have had enough rain this month? I bet no one’s flower gardens are dying of thirst, or the grass is turning yellow; just longer. If you are like me— at one time we were was cutting our grass every two weeks— now we are cutting it twice a week. I must say though, my flowers in my front and back yard are much more beautiful, bright, colorful, have much larger bulbs and are growing like beanstalks. I am just making an observation, I am not complaining and neither should you. It is all God’s work and we are truly blessed.
Well, my dear friends, I truly hope you are having a fun and safe Fourth of July weekend. Hoping the weekend will give us dry weather because there are a few outdoor events going on including the Baltimore International Reggae Jerk Festival presented by Caribbean Dutch Pot Restaurant, which is owned by Culinary Captain, Ras Prince located 6403 Windsor Mills Road. This year the festival will be held at the Pimlico Race Course, 5201 Park Heights Avenue on Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. I am telling you folks, if you have never been to a Caribbean Festival, than you don’t know what you are missing. They will have all kinds of Caribbean food, of course; Grammy Award-winning, self-proclaimed King of the Dance Hall, Beenie Man, along with I-Wayne; Devonte & Tanto Metro; Droop Lion, Jr.; Demus and many more reggae artists. This will be a day-long out-door festival with music, food and tapestry of Caribbean culture and vendors. There is a cover charge, but children under 13 are free. Steve “Smokey” Scribner’s Dinner, Show and Cabaret theme this weekend is “Remember the Royal Theater” on Sunday, July 7th 4-8 p.m. at the Forest Park Senior Center, 4801 Liberty Heights Avenue.
There is another festival this weekend, only this one is indoors and it is cabaret style, meaning that it is B.Y.O.B.; they will have dinner for you. It is the “Dinner, Show Cabaret; Remember the Royal Theater Event.” It will be held on Sunday, July 7th 4 p.m.-8 p.m., at the Forest Park Senior Center, 4801 Liberty Heights Avenue. I will also be there signing copies of my new book: “African-America Community, History & Entertainment in Maryland” (Remembering the Yesterdays 1940-1980). Well, ladies and gentlemen, even though this festival has been well advertised, I want to remind you to attend the African American Heritage Festival. It is family-oriented and is a celebration of African American life, music and culture. This event is being held during the 4th of July weekend featuring local and international entertainment including Patti LaBelle and American Idol winner Fantasia. There will be seminars; children’s activities; arts; technology; education; financial literacy; health screenings; wellness workshops; food, food, food and more food! It will be held at the M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday, July 6, noon until 10 p.m. and Sunday, July 7, noon until 8 p.m. Oh, did I tell you? It is FREE!
