CHESAPEAKE, Va., March 26, 2017—The University of Maryland Eastern Shore won the 2017 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championship on Sunday with a 4-1 win over North Carolina A&T State in the championship final at the AMF Lanes.
MDES picks up its ninth MEAC title all-time and its fourth in the last five seasons.
The Hawks dropped the first game of the best-of-seven Baker format, as North Carolina A&T State – the No. 2 seed following Friday’s traditional team play – edged the Hawks 175-170. From there, MDES came back to take a 193-188 win in the second game, thanks to three strikes in the final four rolls.
MDES, the No. 1 seed, took the momentum from there, winning the third game 170-165 and taking the fourth game 173-167.
A 188-165 decision in the fifth game gave the Hawks the title.
Two-time reigning MEAC Bowler of the Year Thashaina Seraus was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Performer, and Kayla Bandy was named the Most Outstanding Coach.
Joining Seraus on the All-Tournament Team were Alexandra Hernandez from Maryland Eastern Shore, MacKenzie Robinson and Mia Pope from North Carolina A&T State and Delaware State’s Chelsey Merklinger.
The championship match will be televised via tape-delay on ESPNU on Sunday, April 2 at 9 p.m.
