HBCU Round-Up: Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference – MEAC Softball

South Carolina State senior Unique Whitehurst was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Adrienne Guerra earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while Brianna Anderson, of Hampton, was named Rookie of the Week.

Whitehurst (SS, 5-4, Sr., Long Beach, Calif.) finished the week with a .647 average, 11 hits, four RBIs, eight walks and two sac flies. She batted .630 in three games against North Carolina A&T State. She hit a solo home run in the first game of the series to seal the Lady Bulldogs’ first win of the season. The shortstop finished the series with three runs on six hits with two RBI and four walks. Defensively, Whitehurst recorded 10 putouts and six assists.

Guerra (P, 5-8, Jr., Monrovia, Calif.) struck out 44 batters last week in 35.2 innings en route to a 4-2 week and a 1.18 ERA. She pitched two complete-game shutout victories against Savannah State and Coppin State. Guerra also earned her first save of the Season against Coppin State.

Anderson (OF, 5-5, Fr., Chesapeake, Va.) went 7-for-11 behind the plate in three victories over Howard. She notched a team-high three RBI in the 13-1 win against Howard. Anderson finished the weekend with three runs, two triples and three stolen bases.

Sabrina Anguiano (B-CU) scattered six hits and allowed just one run in 10.0 innings of work.

Ryan Jackson (B-CU) registered a perfect fielding percentage with three putouts against Savannah State last weekend.

Kailey Richard (B-CU) led the team with a .625 batting average in a three-game sweep over Savannah State.

Madison Didion (CSU) finished with 15 strikeouts, in 21.2 innings played, in three games against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Megan Narvaez (CSU) led the Eagles with eight hits, three runs and two RBI in three games against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Patricia Soria (CSU) had a season-high four hits against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Khaliyah Flournory (DSU) hit two home runs in a three-game series against Norfolk State.

Hannah Shields (DSU) tossed three shutout innings and earned a win in the 7-0 win over Norfolk State.

Amber Fullwood (FAMU) went 3-for-4 with one home run and three runs scored in a 7-0 victory over North Carolina Central.

Kenya Pereira (FAMU) tossed a two-hit shutout victory against North Carolina Central.

Jamesia Stoudemire (FAMU) hit a lead-off RBI triple in the 2-1 win over North Carolina Central.

Allyson Babinsack (HAM) belted her first home run of the season, a two-run homer, against Howard.

Imani Ballard (HOW) hit a home run to give the Bison a 2-1 lead over Hampton.

Samantha Casarez (MDES) went a perfect 4-for-4 in a victory over Coppin State.

D’errica Toppin (MDES) earned her first career pitching victory in the 11-0 win over Coppin State.

Amy Begg (MSU) recorded a 1.75 ERA in 16 innings of work, with 12 strikeouts, at the Mount St. Mary’s Tournament.

Zadashia Waddell (NCAT) drove in the first run during the 7-6 win over South Carolina State.

Meaghan Barfield (NSU) belted her first career home run against Delaware State.

Hunter Halford (NSU) registered a career-high four RBI against Delaware State.

Megan Przeslawski (NSU) recorded 12 straight outs in the last five innings of the 7-2 victory over Delaware State.

Ragin Prunty (SCSU) scattered eight hits and allowed three earned runs in a win over North Carolina A&T State.

Day-sha Stewart (SCSU) scored two runs on two hits in the 6-3 victory over North Carolina A&T State.

Deanna Sullivan (SCSU) went 5-for-10, with four RBI, in three games against North Carolina A&T State.
