Final Results
FAIRFAX, Va. – Following a four-week break from competition, the Morgan State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams returned to action this Saturday when they participated in the Father Diamond Memorial Invitational at George Mason University.
The Bears opened their season on Dec. 3 when they participated in the Navy Invitational, followed by the Yale Season Opener on Dec. 10, but have not competed since because of final exams and the holiday break.
Morgan State took a contingent of approximately 14 men to this weekend’s invitational at the Recreation Sports Complex.
The Bears had eight individual top-5 performances and was led by standout sprinter Kevin Leach.
Leach, a junior from Hyattsville, Md., led Morgan State by capturing the 200-meter dash in a personal best time of 22:53. He also joined Caniggia Harriott, Akhenaton Pierre and Shindell Henry as a member of the Bears 4×400 meter relay team that took second place with a time of 3:18.24.
In the 400m dash, Akhenaton Pierre placed second in a time of 50.60, and Caniggia Harriott finished fourth (51.31), while Fernandes Boyd was seventh (52.68).
Senior Joel Roberson placed fourth in the 500 meter run with an IC4A qualifying time of 1:04.44. 3. Devon Hairston posted a third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with an 8.71.
In the field events, Kurt Goodlitt had a mark of 6.40 meters in the long jong to take second place behind George Mason’s Junias Agyei (7.05m). A pair of Bears had solid performances in the weight throw. Vikarie Elliott had a second place finish with a toss of 14.46 meters, while Goodlitt’s 13.97 meter mark was good enough for third place.
Morgan State returns to action when they travel to compete in the Towson Tiger Invitational on Saturday, January 14th.
