HBCU Round-Up:MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

Hampton freshman Brianna Anderson was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Delaware State’s Tara Tursellino earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while teammate Jordan Casey was named Rookie of the Week.

Anderson (OF, 5-5, Fr., Chesapeake, Va.) batted .467 in five games last week. She had seven hits, including two doubles and three RBIs, and an on-base percentage of .529. Anderson also stole five bases, with three coming against non-conference opponent Radford. Defensively, Anderson picked up six putouts with a .600 fielding percentage.

Tursellino (P, 5-6, Sr., Moreno Valley, Calif.) went 3-0 with a 1.05 ERA against Maryland Eastern Shore and Howard. She pitched a total of 20 innings, in three games, while surrendering three runs and striking out 20. Tursellino also broke the school record for most wins (46) and established a new team record for complete game victories (36) in the 3-2 win over Howard.

Casey (INF, 5-3, Fr., Fredericksburg, Va.) went 5-for-11 behind the plate in four games last week. She recorded a .466 batting average with one double and one walk, while driving in two runs, in a three-game sweep of Delaware State. Casey also stole one base in the 10-0 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Other Top Performers

Desiree Moreno (DSU) hit her first career grand slam to give the Hornets a 10-0 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Allie Hotetz (HAM) finished the week with a 1.12 ERA, in 16 innings pitched, with seven strikeouts.

Adrienne Guerra (MDES) recorded a career-high 16 strikeouts against Morgan State.

Amy Begg (MSU) currently leads the MEAC in strikeouts (149) after fanning 12 batters in two wins over Morgan State.

Kate Vosper (MSU) had three hits, including two home runs, in a three-game sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Zadia Davis (NCAT) batted .571 with eight hits in four games last week. Recorded a double in the team’s win at Campbell while also scoring a total of three runs with a stolen base.

Zadaisha Waddell (NCAT) finished the week with a 2-0 mark, a save and 14 strikeouts.
