— There is a saying, “Luck is when hard work meets opportunity.” Baltimore Ravens cornerback Dominique Franks has been granted a new opportunity to further his NFL career. The Ravens originally had Franks on the roster during training camp but released him when the team finalized their roster. An injury to nickel corner Asa Jackson created a void in the secondary and as a result, the Ravens signed Franks to rejoin the team.

The Ravens worked out a few veteran corners but decided to bring back Franks to fill their need for a defensive back. They were glad that Franks was still on the market.

“Dominique is going to do a good job for us. He was here in training camp and did well. He’s a good football player. We liked him then, and we’re fortunate that he’s still available,” Head coach John Harbaugh said.

Being released during the final round of roster cuts was a difficult decision for both Franks and the Ravens. Franks wanted to get back onto the Ravens roster and the Ravens felt he would be the best fit out of the veterans that they worked out.

“Coach Harbaugh talked to me when they let me go,” Franks said. “He said if anything happened he would try to bring me back if he had an opportunity to. It’s just staying patient, being at home— praying a lot to get a chance.”

Franks says that he will be ready to contribute if called upon. “I definitely do,” Franks said. “With me being here in the preseason, I know the defense. Now it’s just going out there and following through on my skills. Back home I didn’t really have a chance to cover anybody. Now it’s just getting used to receivers running routes.”

Franks saw his first regular season action as a Raven last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will see more action this weekend when the Atlanta Falcons come to Baltimore to take on the Ravens. The Falcons were the team that originally drafted him in 2010. Franks was considered to be one of the better corners in that year’s draft class and was selected in fifth round. The majority of his time as a Falcon was spent playing both nickel and outside corner. He was also a contributor on special teams.

The Falcons will bring a very good wide receiver corps with them for Sunday’s game against the Ravens in Baltimore. Franks will take the field against his former team in his second game as a Raven and his first regular season home game with his new team. Roddy White and Julio Jones present a very formidable match up for the Ravens defensive backs.

The goal is simple for Franks as he embarks on a new journey with his new team. He knows that he has to go out and compete every day.

“It’s always competition.” Frank said. “When I come out here each day, I just try to get better and prove to the coaches and the guys that I can play. You have to go out there and try to prove yourself every day.”
