Hello Folks! Are we enjoying this beautiful weather? I know I am. Honey Child! This is my time of the year. I have been running my little butt all over the place and having a ball. I am mostly enjoying book signings for my new book. Thanks to many of your invitations, I am doing about five book signings a week. I am having such a good time meeting so many of my fans who have been reading my columns for the past 27 years. Yes, it has been a true pleasure and will continue to be so.
I hope all you daddies enjoyed your weekend last week. I hope the ladies in your life treated you like a king.
There are other things I am so grateful for. One of them is being able to run a foundation that I founded 23 years ago called the Rosa Pryor Music Scholarship Fund, Inc. and giving over a hundred musically gifted underprivileged children the opportunity to shine.
Last week, the Executive Director of the Children’s Scholarship Committee, Dr. Donna Hollie attended a performance at Harford County Community College by Ian McDaniel, who won a RPMSF Scholarship in 2012. He performed a duet with his teacher from Peabody entitled “Hyacinthe Klose” which was followed by his solo performance of music by Bach. He also played “Voice of the Spirit in My Soul” with the Harford Community College Band and Charlie Parker’s “Donna Lee.” He accompanied Debbie Levy, a member of his church, on “Goin” Up Yonder” and the call & response between the two was outstanding. Accompanying Ian on drums was a brother of O’Donell “Butch” Levy who presented Ian with an alto sax from O’Donnell’s collection of instruments. The evening ended with a sing-along to Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.” I am so proud of this young man.
Vincent Street Entertainment producers, Vincent and “PJ” Allen will host a musical extravaganza that will blow your mind on Saturday, June 21st at the Jewish Community Center Gordon Center, 3508 Gwynnbrook Avenue, in Owings Mills. The event stars the legendary Bobbi Humphrey as she celebrates the 40th anniversary of her Satin Doll album. Also performing Corinthia Cromwell, Cyrus Chestnut, Sean Taylor, Cyril Greene, Chelsey Green, Ashley Alexander, Carmelita Simone and the special guest is yours truly, Rosa Pryor. Oh! “Jesse and The Crew” will host the “Friday Nite Oldies” at Caton Castle Appreciation Nite on Friday, June 20th. Admission is half price. There will be food, dancing and some good ol’ grown folk’s music. The color scheme is black & white. Come out and party from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m.
There’s a Farmer’s Market every Wednesday, 1-5 p.m. at the Liberty Court Shopping Center adjacent to the Randallstown Library & Old Court Roads, 8604 Liberty Road, Randallstown, Maryland.
